jakobsen-consult ApS was founded by Niels Jakobsen with an ambition to reduce the costs and risks of our clients, while offering comprehensive hands-on experience within the development and realisation of large-scale energy projects.

Niels Jakobsen is an educated engineer specialized in energy with more than 35 years of experience within Biomass and Waste-to-Energy projects. His former positions include large international consultancies and energy utility sector companies.

Niels Jakobsen is specialised in Biomass and Waste-to-Energy, and he holds comprehensive experience from Denmark and internationally. He has been involved in numerous Biomass and Waste-to-Energy power plant projects worldwide working for investors, utilities, waste management companies, district heating companies, industrial enterprises, international donors and international financing institutions.

Within the green transition he has worked with topics such as advanced biofuel technologies and carbon capture, and he is specialised in the utilisation of agricultural and industrial biomass residues like straw, wood residues, sugar cane and agave bagasse, and shea meal for energy production.  

He is familiar with all project phases, from idea/project sounding, feasibility study and conceptual design, planning and detail design, procurement, contract management, construction supervision to commissioning, testing and hand-over. He is experienced in all aspects of procurement, including procurement strategy, tender specification, evaluation, negotiations and contracting. As such, he is able to conduct valuable strategic advice on the entire project life cycle.

The management of more projects in the EUR 100M+ class and even larger in Denmark and internationally have given him eminent skills in project management, also cross cultural.

Niels resided in Australia 2019-2020 working as the Owner Engineer project manager for the Kwinana Waste-to-Energy project in Western Australia and other Waste-to-Energy projects under development in the region. Besides this, he holds comprehensive international ”on the ground” working experience from Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Ireland, England, Poland, Ukraine, Kuwait, Indonesia, Egypt, Namibia, South Africa, Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya and Mexico.

Niels is fluent in German and English beside his mother tongue Danish.
